With heavy hearts, we announce the passing

A Passion for Acting and More

Born on July 7, 1949, in Fort Worth, Texas, Shelley initially had aspirations of becoming a research scientist. She even attended South Texas Junior College to pursue her dream. However, she also had a keen interest in food. Little did she know that her true calling lay in the world of acting.

Hollywood and Beyond

In the mid-1990s, Shelley made the big move to Hollywood, California, marking the beginning of her successful acting career. Alongside acting, she also operated her own production company, Think Entertainment, which produced innovative children’s programming for cable television. Her work with the company earned her two Emmy Award nominations.

Recognitions and Awards

Shelley’s incredible acting skills were highly regarded and rewarded throughout her career. In 1977, she won the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival for her performance in “3 Women.” The same year, she also received the LAFCA Award for Best Actress. Additionally, in 1984, she was honored with a Peabody Award for her TV show “Faerie Tale Theatre.”

Brave Battle with Mental Illness

In November 2016, Shelley bravely opened up about her struggles with mental illness on the popular talk show “Dr. Phil.” During the show, she courageously pleaded, “I am very sick. Help me please.” While her vulnerability touched many, some criticized the episode for being exploitative and cruel.

A Peaceful Departure

Shelley Duvall sadly passed away due to complications from diabetes. Her partner, Dan Gilroy, shared the heartbreaking news, revealing that she died peacefully in her sleep at home in Blanco, Texas. With tender words, he said, “My sweet, wonderful, dear life partner and friend left us. Too much pain lately, she’s free now. Fly away, pretty Shelley.”

Cherished Contributions to Cinema

Shelley Duvall’s contribution to cinema will be forever cherished by fans around the world. While she had many notable roles, she is perhaps best known for her performance alongside Jack Nicholson in the iconic 1980 horror/mystery film, “The Shining.” Additionally, she starred in a range of films, including “Popeye” (1980), a family comedy with Robin Williams; “Annie Hall” (1977); “3 Women” (1977), a thriller/mystery; and “Nashville” (1975), a musical/comedy, among many others.

Personal Life and Love

In terms of her personal life, Shelley was married to artist Bernard Sampson from 1970 to 1974. They tied the knot during the filming of “Brewster McCloud,” but their relationship ended shortly after moving to Los Angeles. In 1989, she found love again with Dan Gilroy, with whom she remained until her passing.

Shelley Duvall will be remembered not only for her immense talent but also for her bravery, resilience, and kindness. She has left an indelible mark on the world of cinema, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of her fans forever.
