The event followed Trump’s signing of an executive order aimed at cost-cutting initiatives through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). As Musk fielded reporters’ questions, X continued to stir amusement—and criticism—by sticking his fingers in his father’s ears.
“I thought my son might enjoy this, but he’s sticking his fingers in my ears and stuff,” Musk remarked, before telling X, “Hey! Stop that.”
The toddler also mimicked Musk while he discussed DOGE’s mission to “restore democracy,” leading the billionaire father to apologize: “I tell you, gravitas can be difficult sometimes.”
Reactions on social media were swift, with many slamming Musk for bringing his son to such a high-profile event. Critics labeled it “unprofessional,” questioning why the billionaire hadn’t arranged childcare.
“I will actually donate some of my taxpayer dollars so that Elon Musk can get a damn babysitter,” one user mocked.
Adding to the backlash, Grimes—real name Claire Boucher—criticized Musk for allowing their son to be present. She took to Twitter, writing: “He should not be in public like this. I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”
